Welcome to Native Traditions Artworks, art by Gwen Coleman Lester, a member and registered Choctaw artist of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Gwen Coleman Lester has been participating in Native American art festivals and museum exhibitions since 1984. Native American subject matter is Gwen’s focus. The majority of her art awards come from her illustrations of contemporary Choctaw culture. They include illustrations of family life, dances, and stickball games. Sometimes Choctaw language is included as a design element. The colored pencil drawings are realistic and tightly rendered, while her acrylic paintings are more loose and painterly. She also works in pastel using Native American subject matter. After years of participating the the Five Civilized Tribes Museum's annual juried art competition, the museum named her as a Master Artist in November 2007.
Gwen received her degree in commercial art from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Gwen and her husband, Rod Lester, produce her limited edition prints through their company Native Traditions Artworks.
